Proto-type patterns and permanent metal tooling are used to reproduce specific parts and shapes. Proto-type patterns are used for short run jobs or test parts. Permanent metal tooling is used for long run and high production castings like automotive.
Proto-type patterns are made of wood or plastic. Permanent metal tooling is made of aluminum, iron or tool steel. While pattern determines the shape of the product, it is the mold sand media that controls the formation of the product.
