GLUE MACHINES

  • Unitized heavy-duty machine with platens, carriage, and stainless steel glue tank mounted on heavy-duty frame.
  • Fully automatic control of all machine motions for repeatability and high production rates with Vulcan installed PLC software.
  • Adjustable glue print platen dwell for draining and glue deposit timing and speed control.
  • Main electrical panel is mounted to frame at rear of glue machine serving as the central electrical control unit by providing the electrical power to motors and other machine components and housing the PLC and other necessary electrical hardware.
  • Operator control panel located adjacent to and in front of glue machine informs operator of machine status via pilot lights while allowing operator manual control of machine functions using buttons and / or selector switches.
  • Glue tank is constructed of stainless steel and along with being highly insulated, contains mixers to circulate the glue to maintain even glue temperature throughout tank.
  • Glue tank is encased with foil backed mineral wool insulation covered with an aluminized steel skin.
  • Glue tank contains a heated drainage duct to promote drainage of glue for cleaning tank.
  • Hot oil re-circulating / heating unit is close coupled to glue tank to reduce energy losses and is used to heat special thermal transfer oil to desired temperature and circulate it through the glue tank's double wall enclosure for optimum glue temperature control.
  • pecial PID loop developed by Vulcan for precise glue temperature control and preventing overheating.

FOAM REPLICA ASSEMBLY MACHINE IL 3030

The Vulcan Engineering Co. IL 3030 foam replica assembly machine is designed to rapidly and accurately glue foam assemblies for Lost Foam castings together. Because of its unique design, the machine allows maximum productivity by allowing the operator to unload assembled patterns and load loose segments while the machine is in the process of completing assemblies. This capability ensures that overall machine utilization is optimized.

Features of the IL 3030 Foam Replica Assembly Machine

  • Production-duty machine with platens, carriage, and stainless steel glue tank mounted on a heavy-duty frame
  • High productivity design - Dual unload/load stations allow increased efficiency for machine and operators. The machine’s process time is uninhibited by the operator’s unload/load sequence. Likewise, the operator’s unload/load sequence may be performed uninhibited by machine’s cycle.
  • Fast, accurate, and repeatable motions using servo driven carriage and platen movements - Coordinated and optimized motion profiles are used to minimize cycle times and maximize machine performance.
  • Multiple light curtain protection screens for failsafe operator protection
  • Stationary glue platen with a glue tank raise/lower mechanism for enhanced glue print accuracy

Operating Sequence

  1. The operator unloads an assembled replica from the lower nest of the left side of the machine and subsequently loads unassembled replica sections in the same lower nests. The operator steps clear of the light curtains and then initiates the next assembly cycle.
  2. The upper platen indexes into position and captures the top segment of the replica assembly. The upper platen then indexes to the glue tank and prints the top segment of the pattern assembly with hot melt adhesive. The upper platen then returns to the assembly position and glues the two pattern segments together. After holding the segments together for a preset amount of time, upper platen releases the assembled replica and moves to the center position. The operator can then reach in and retrieve the assembled pattern from the left hand unload/load station.
  3. While the left side of the machine is operating, the operator can unload an assembled replica from the right side and load unassembled segments in the right hand lower nests. The operator steps clear of the light curtain and initiates “cycle readiness” once the pattern segments are loaded.
  4. Steps 1, 2, and 3 repeat as the operator sequentially removes assembled replicas and loads unassembled segments into the assembly nests. The operator and machine continue to work in parallel for maximum pattern assembly throughputs.
